Job Description:

Under supervision of VP of Institutional Gifts, the Grants Coordinator carries out four distinct duties to advance the Institutional Gifts (IG) department to reach objectives. 1) writing assigned grants to support general operating and special campaigns; 2) prospecting for new grants: government, private foundations, corporate foundations, community organizations and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA); 3) reporting and following-up with existing grantors, in person and written correspondence; 4)collaborating with the Finance department is critical to success of grants department.




Grant-writing- 35%

  • Write grants to government entities, private foundations, corporate foundations, community organizations and BGCA as assigned
  • Develop case statements to strengthen program and Club grant requests
  • Prepare weekly to discuss status of grant-writing assignments and fine-tune requests as needed


Prospect Research- 35%

  • Research new government funding opportunities: city, state and federal
  • Research new private funding opportunities to advance strategic program goals and increase revenue: private foundations, corporate foundations, organizations and BGCA
  • Bring research to weekly IG meeting, ranking prospects by viability
  • Reach out to potential funders to gauge alignment


Grant Reporting and Administration 10%

  • Maintain funder files, electronically and hard copy
  • Grant reporting and follow-up for assigned grants to keep grantors engaged and informed


Finance Partnering 20%

  • Manage grants in grants module of accounting software
  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements
  • Manage grant invoicing
  • Collaborate with Finance Manager on grant budgets
  • Find efficiencies within the current grant tracking andmonitoring process


Experience and Skills:


  • Excellent Excel skills 
  • Excellent writing skills 
  • BA degree or higher in related field


  • 2 years fundraising experience 
  • Youth development experience 
  • San Francisco knowledge



  • Must be able to stand for at least 1 hour
  • Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time period of time
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for events or moving from one club to another.
