Job Description:

The Director of Institutional Giving is a pivotal position, creating and implementing fundraising from private and public institutional giving sources. This is an entry level director position. Together, these entities represent the largest source of philanthropic income for BGCSF. As such, the IG Director is connected to BGCSF’s mission since s/he secures the dollars needed to sustain staffing and programming. Position reports to the VP of Institutional Gifts.

 

KEY ROLES:

 

Grant Writing- 40%

  • Collaborates on developing long- and short-term private fundraising strategies with executive team for both operating, capital and special initiatives
  • Independently authors and prepares comprehensive funding proposals for institutional awards
  • Customize key external case statements, proposals and presentations in whatever format is best suited for requests
  • Authors letters of intent and inquiry and other required proposal-related materials
  • Work with Outcomes Measurement team to integrate objectives/outcomes into grant proposals

 

Prospect Research - 50%

  • Research new public and private IG funding opportunities to advance strategic program goals and increase revenue: private foundations, corporate foundations, organizations and BGCA
  • Bring research to weekly IG meeting, ranking prospects by viability
  • Reach out to potential funders to gauge alignment
  • Work with Board of Directors and other key BGCSF partners and donors to make connections with prospective IG funders
  • Represent BGCSF at meetings to cultivate prospective funders
  • Represent BGCSF with Board of Supervisors and other SF City Officials to position agency for short- and long-term funding
  • Work with Outcomes Measurement team to develop best ways to tell story of impact to prospective donors

 

Grant Reporting and Administration 5%

  • Maintain funder files, electronically and hard copy
  • Work with Grant Writer position to ensure grant reporting and follow-up for assigned grants to keep grantors engaged and informed
  • Acknowledge IG funders with customized approach, including letters, recognition through marketing, Club tours, and/or event participation

 

Finance Partnering 5%

  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, especially government sources
  • Collaborate with Finance Manager on grant budgets

 

Experience and Skills:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Experience with Raisers Edge preferred
  • Impeccable writing skills with a particular strength in composing all aspects of grant proposals
  • BA degree or higher in related field
  • 5+ years development experience, preferably within human services
  • Proven track record in prospect management and IG solicitation
  • Understanding of San Francisco

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for events or moving from one club to another.
  • Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
