Job Description:


S/he shall help plan and organize all aquatics programs as well as support the overall maintenance and upkeep of the aquatics center. The aquatics coordinator works directly with the aquatics director. This position is full time (30 hours during the school year and 40 hours per week during the summer). This position is located at our Don Fisher Clubhouse.


Day to Day Leadership - 60%

  • Provision of leadership and guidance to members concerning health, safety and First Aid;
  • Must have the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation; ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures; the physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Must develop and execute outreach and recruitment plan both within the core membership of BGCSF and in the service area of the Clubhouse.
  • Must assist with executing our "learn to swim" program by helping train teachers, sign up swimmers and lifeguarding.

Program management - 40%

  • Expand programs in the areas of swim lessons, the Water Smart program, recreational swim, lifeguarding and other specialty programs.
  • Attendance and progress for water smart, free swim and learn to swim programs.
  • Communication and enforcement of rules to members.
  • Provision of appropriate emergency care.
  • Understanding of and ability to operate all pool equipment.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to get new youth to participate in the aquatics program.
  • Taking of pool chemical readings, cleaning of pool deck, and proper storage of pool equipment.
  • Canvassing programs to inner city youth.

Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) Level 2.
  • Must have current certifications in Lifeguard training, First-Aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer;
  • Two years aquatic teaching or coaching experience
  • Attendance of all full staff meetings;
  • Ability to work with minor supervision;
  • Knowledge or ability to learn pool routine chemical testing
  • Ability to develop aquatic skills, particularly swimming technique
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Community outreach experience;
  • Strong administration and organizational skills.


Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to

supervise program activities.

  • Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform activities which require sustained concentration and attention.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
