Job Description:



Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Programs, Strategy & Impact has responsibility to provide vision, leadership and management related to the programs and services at 8 traditional Clubhouses and 5 School-Based Clubs. S/he negotiates new programmatic collaborations and partnerships, and guides the quality, variety, and continuity of all existing and new programs. The Vice President of Programs, Strategy & Impact will be responsible for leading a high-functioning team managing Citywide Services, outcome measurement, School-Based Clubs, and Learning & Development.


The Vice President of Programs, Strategy & Impact must work in close partnership with the Vice President of Club Services to 1.) meet the needs of Clubhouses, 2.) meet grant deliverables, and 3.) have alignment on vision, message, and execution. Both Vice Presidents will serve on the Senior Management team and actively interact with the President of Boys & Girls Clubs and the Board of Governors.



Leadership - 30%

  • Provide supervision and coaching to all direct reports in the following departments: School-Based Clubs, Citywide Services, Behavioral Health Services, Learning & Development and Evaluation & Impact
  • Ability to interpret and easily communicate our outcome measurement data while working with the Development and Marketing teams on messaging related to outcomes
  • Attract and retain top talent; maintain strong morale throughout the organization
  • Ensure effective program planning throughout the year that includes curriculum development, setting program goals, objectives, measureable outcomes, evaluation and reporting
  • Routinely visit Clubs and attend events in order to engage with staff and understand programming needs as well as to conduct program and data quality assurance audits
  • Actively set up processes and systems that strengthen the overall integration of BGCSF’s Program Services and Club Services
  • Partner with the VP of Club Services to develop annual participation goals, create innovative program strategies and action plans that lead to each Club’s achievement of the Optimal Club Experience
  • Co-lead with the VP of Club Services, BGCSF’s influencers meeting and attend all Club Services off-sites
  • Work effectively with colleagues in other departments to ensure BGCSF effectively achieves its mission and goals

Strategic Planning - 30%

  • Execute the organization’s strategic plan and mission through the effective management of staff
  • Ensure that the staff’s MBOs (Management by Objectives) are in line with the strategic plan and are successfully completed
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for growth, improved program delivery, and organizational efficiency - recommend changes to the Strategic Plan yearly, when needed

Resource Management - 20%

  • Oversee the development and management of the Program Services budget; monitor budgets on a monthly basis
  • Ensure that all program budgets are consistent with the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco; ensure that the resources of BGCSF are managed and utilized to best serve the youth of San Francisco
  • Effectively partner with institutional giving to ensure that all grant requirements are being fulfilled and serve as a think partner in the grant development process

Collaborations & Partnerships - 20%

  • Develop and/or advance partnerships and collaborations with other non-profits and schools, building win-win relationships that help BGCSF achieve its strategic plan goals
  • Work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to mutually advance our work, piloting programs; providing outcome data; sharing best practices, etc.
  • Work with local government agencies in an effort to better serve the City of San Francisco and to advance the reputation of BGCSF

Experience and Skills:


  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university mandatory
  • Seven years of experience in a leadership capacity at a large, youth serving non-profit, with proven success in staff management, program delivery, and community relations - strongly prefer experience with an inner-city Boys & Girls Club or other community-based organization
  • Thorough knowledge of: the mission, objectives, programs of Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Clear understanding of how community-based organizations are funded, and experience working in partnership with resource development staff and funders Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate programs
  • Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, community groups, City officials and other related agencies, and members of our Board of Governors,
  • Strong technology skills, including G-Suite, Word and Excel




  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 1 hour
  • Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
